I really hate blocking/firewalls. You are sitting around at school or work, or whatever and of course these places just have to have a firewall blocking you from viewing the most exciting pages like YouTube, Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, DailyMotion, etc. This has created an entire web industry of proxie: sites whose sole purpose is to allow you to browse the net under their IP address to bypass the firewalls and blocking methods used by schools, workplaces, etc. The reason proxies work is that the school thinks you are visiting the proxy site but doesnt realize that underneath the proxy site you are actually viewing whatever site you want to view. People can even use proxies to view adult material that is being blocked due to a firewall. Another huge thing proxies are use for is in countries like Iran and China. These countries governments have decided to block materials on the internet for the entire country! In the case of China, the blocking is usually for News expressing dissent or criticism of the Chinese communist regime, adult material, Taiwanese or Tibetan sites and material, democratic political material, and much more. Iran as a Muslim fundamentalist country has blocked all adult material, gay and lesbian material, and pro-western media; the intent of Iran with regards to internet blocking is to block any material that is not in keeping with Muslim Religious fundamentalism which means more sites are blocked than allowed in theory.
